Wellness Exams

two vets assessing a dog's health during a wellness exam

Your pet’s health is always our number one priority, which is why for most pets we recommend annual wellness exams to ensure that your animal companion remains in good health. If your pet is a senior–over seven for dogs, over eleven for cats–we strongly suggest twice-yearly exams and blood screenings. That’s because pets age more rapidly than humans, meaning disease and illness develop faster as well.

Importance of Wellness Exams

The single most valuable service a veterinarian can offer your pet is a physical exam.  A Google search or phone call simply cannot replace the expert information you will gain from a complete, hands-on physical exam and conversation with your veterinarian.  At Cleveland Road Animal Hospital, we pride ourselves on doing a very thorough physical exam every 4 weeks for pets under 4 months, every year for adult patients, and every 6 months for senior pets. We want to catch issues before they become a problem so your pet can stay happy and healthy. Our exams include a thorough nose-to-tail exam. We will examine the oral cavity, eyes, and ears. We will listen to the heart and lungs, and palpate the abdomen for any abnormalities. Orthopedic exams will also be performed on at-risk breeds, older, possible arthritic pets, or whenever warranted or requested. We will address any and all questions and concerns you may have. The doctor will communicate the physical exam findings and his/her recommendations unique for your animal.

Cleveland Road Animal Hospital’s veterinarian-performed physical exams comprehensively assess every aspect of your pet’s health. Wellness exams typically include:
