2014 Merit Award Winner – Veterinary Economics

CLEVELAND ROAD ANIMAL HOSPITAL & THE PET HOTEL WIN 2014 HOSPITAL DESIGN COMPETITION MERIT AWARD

WOOSTER –Cleveland Road Animal Hospital (CRAH) & The Pet Hotel received the Merit Award in the annual Veterinary Economics hospital design competition. CRAH is one of only 11 veterinary hospitals in the country and Canada recognized for exceptional veterinary facilities. It will be featured in the June issue which reaches 58,000 practicing veterinarians.

Judges evaluated the hospitals on multiple criteria including site plan, outpatient and inpatient areas, quality of finished materials, mechanical features and overall features. “These award-winning facilities set the standard for cutting-edge veterinary hospital design,” said Brendan Howard, editor of Veterinary Economics.

“We are very proud to be a nationally recognized veterinary hospital and excited to add this accomplishment to the long list of reasons Wooster is a great place to live and do business,” said Chad Bailey, DVM and CRAH owner. “No other Ohio town can boast it has one of the best designed veterinary hospitals in the country.”

Doors opened on CRAH’s new facility last April. In addition to expanded hospital space, the building features the area’s first luxury pet hotel and spa. Still located at 2752 Cleveland Road, the new structure includes a spacious client service area, five exam rooms, a consultation room and a drive-thru pharmacy. It also houses surgical rooms, a circular island with multiple procedure tables and intensive care areas specific for canine and feline patients.

The second floor is staff offices and features a community service room with a large picture window overlooking the animal care area.

The Pet Hotel contains luxury boarding suites, studios, quiet cottages and canine cabins. Canine suites are equipped with a webcam so pet owners can visit during vacation times. A large indoor/outdoor doggy daycare area sits just off the lobby.

On the feline side, custom cat condos feature spacious, multi-tiered enclosures with glass front doors. Each condo includes a separate room with a private litter box. The cat exercise suite has room to run and play plus special toys and window seats.

Recently Cheryl Becker, DVM, joined owners Chad and Stephanie Bailey, DMV, and associate Caitlin Karl, DVM. Becker specializes in Rehab, acupuncture and Chinese herbal medicine in addition to traditional veterinary practices.

This is the 49th year Veterinary Economics, an international business and management magazine, has held the design competition. It is open to all newly built veterinary facilities in the country and Canada.
