The Cleveland Road Difference

LobbyFrom the moment you walk in our door, we want you to experience “The Cleveland Road Difference.”  We will immediately stand apart from other animal hospitals with our spacious lobby, flat-screen television, coffee bar and friendly front desk staff. Want some bottled water while you wait? Just ask a member of our staff and it will be provided. The differences don’t stop there. In everything we do, from our physical exams, to the type of vaccines we use, we strive to provide the highest quality veterinary care for your pet, while providing you with amenities you wouldn’t expect from an animal hospital. Here are just a few ways we are unique:

The Exam

Exam RoomYour pet will receive a thorough physical exam from nose to tail. We will examine the oral cavity, eyes, and ears. We will listen to the heart and lungs, and palpate the abdomen for any abnormalities. Orthopedic exams will also be performed on at-risk breeds, older, possible arthritic pets, or whenever warranted or requested. We will address any and all questions and concerns you may have. The doctor will communicate the physical exam findings and his/her recommendations unique for your animal. We commonly get comments like “nobody has ever examined my pet’s eyes as thoroughly before.” A thorough, comprehensive exam sets us apart.

The Vaccines

Unlike some hospitals where vaccines are given to every animal, even if they are not at risk for certain diseases, we don’t recommend all vaccines for every animal.  We tailor our vaccine protocol based on you and your pet’s lifestyle. The vaccines we use are the “smoothest” vaccines available. What do we mean by “smooth”? Our vaccines have very low reactivity, meaning we see very few if any vaccine reactions. We also use brand new syringes and needles whenever we give injections of any kind, or draw blood. Sound like a no-brainer? You would be surprised to find that many “discount” clinics use resterilized syringes and even needles! This practice increases the risk of infection at the injection site, not to mention pain for your pet. We guarantee that our syringes are new and sterile, and that our needles are changed before giving an injection. This means a sterile, sharp needle which equals less pain! Questions? – give us a call.

Our Laboratory

Lab EquipmentWe use state-of-the-art blood analysis machines in hospital. This allows us to diagnose problems while you wait, not the next day. When your pet is ill, and you want answers, we can deliver quickly. In addition we have on-site X-ray capabilities which further allow us to diagnose quickly and accurately. Soon we will be adding an ultrasound machine to further our diagnostic capabilities.

Anesthesia

At Cleveland Road Animal Hospital your pet’s safety is of the utmost importance. That is why we use the safest anesthetics available to ensure your pet’s surgery or procedure goes smoothly. Almost all of our surgeries and procedures receive inhalant anesthesia, i.e. they breathe the anesthetic through Anesthesia Machinean endotracheal tube that is placed in the trachea, or wind pipe. In addition all of our surgeries are monitored with an ECG (monitoring heart rate and rhythm), pulse oximetry (measuring the percent of oxygen saturation in the blood), blood pressure, and temperature. These techniques give our doctors information they can use to monitor your pets’ vital signs under anesthesia. We also offer preanesthetic blood chemistry analysis before placing your animal under anesthesia. This information is used to make sure your pets’ organ systems, liver and kidneys to name a couple, can handle anesthesia. If your pet is at an increased risk, and the procedure is necessary, we can formulate an anesthetic protocol suited for him/her. Lastly, we use the newest technology in thermal regulation. This means that while your pet is under anesthesia his/her temperature will be maintained and hypothermia is not a problem. This means your pet wakes up quickly from anesthesia and is ready to go home!

The Surgery

Dr. East performing surgery. Our hospital uses the highest level of sterility to make sure secondary infections do not occur post surgically. We use sterile surgical gowns, gloves, caps and masks to maintain sterility in the surgical suite. We use a new surgical pack for each surgery. Again, this should be standard for all hospitals, but some try to cut costs by reusing the SAME instruments for multiple surgeries! This significantly increases the chance for infection, not to mention is just plain disturbing. After the surgery concludes we will update you on you pet’s condition and will thoroughly go over aftercare instructions with you when you pick him/her up.

We strongly believe in the comfort of your pet and all of our surgeries receive post-operative pain medications. Whether it is an injection post-operatively, oral pain medications to go home, or both, every animal that undergoes a surgical procedure will get some pain relief. Some hospitals do not believe your pet needs post-operative pain medications or will charge extra for these medications (we know, we asked!). Wouldn’t you want some pain relief after a major surgical procedure?

Dental Prophylaxis/Surgery

Dental EquipmentCleveland Road Animal Hospital uses state-of-the-art dental equipment to clean and polish your pet’s teeth. Notice we clean and polish? Many hospitals only scale the tartar off of the teeth. This can leave microscopic groves in the tooth enamel, leading to rapid plaque accumulation, more frequent cleanings, and further dental disease. We polish the teeth after scaling them, eliminating these groves and removing dental stains. In the event your pet needs more extensive dental work, we have the equipment to perform all but the most complicated dental techniques.

Boarding

KennelsWe cater only to our clients. That is why we only offer boarding to you, the people who utilize us as their veterinary hospital. This allows us to keep our kennels open in the event you need to leave town quickly. Our staff is very attentive to all of our boarders, and will bring any problems to the attention of a Doctor. Because all of our boarders are patients, we know their medical history and can address problems quickly and effectively. You can be sure your pet is under the best care possible when you are away!
