Diagnostics

Diagnostics

Is your pet vomiting? Losing weight? Not eating? At Cleveland Road Animal Hospital, we know it can be scary when your best friend isn’t feeling well, and we are here to help.  With state-of-the-art in-house laboratory equipment, we can receive and interpret labwork within 30 minutes so that we can start any needed therapies sooner. CRAH has many diagnostics at our fingertips, such as the following services:

In-house IDEXX laboratory system

When your pet is ill and you want answers, we can deliver quickly. This allows us to diagnose problems while you wait. Not the next day. With our in-house laboratory, we can evaluate Complete Blood Count’s (CBC’s), chemistries, urine, thyroid values, clotting times, and more.

X-Rays
  • X-rays are a valuable diagnostic tool to identify heart disease, confirm pregnancies, and to identify tumors, obstructions, bladder stones and joint disease
  • Our digital x-rays are all read by board-certified veterinary radiologists
Ultrasound
  • Ultrasound is used for imaging soft tissue and internal organs. In addition to confirming pregnancies, certain abnormalities, such as tumors, abscesses, cysts, bladder or kidney stones, fluid pockets and obstructions are all easily detected and measured with ultrasound. Ultrasound may also be used to help guide a needle when performing a needle biopsy of tissue. Ultrasound is non-invasive and considered very safe.
  • Depending on the tissues being analyzed, sedation is usually not required.
Pulse Oximetry

Pulse Ox is a non-invasive way for us to evaluate your pet’s oxygen saturation which is especially important during surgery and to evalute for respiratory disease.

EKG

EKG allows us to monitor your pet’s heart rate and rhythm. At CRAH, all pets under general anesthesia are monitored with our EKG and this allows s us to identify and treat abnormal rhythms quickly and effectively. We also will perform an EKG if we suspect that your pet has an abnormal heart rhythm on exam.

Blood Pressure

Blood pressure measurements are essential for safe anesthesia, and, at CRAH, all of our patients have their blood pressure taken throughout general anesthesia. Blood pressure is also recommended in our senior patients as well as patients with chronic disease such as hyperthyroidism or kidney disease.

Reference Laboratory

We have partnered with Idexx Laboratories for additional tests and for a pathologist’s evaluation of abnormal labwork or biopsy samples. This ensures that abnormal samples are read by a specialist in the veterinary field and helps us reach an accurate diagnosis faster.
